THE LATE SHOW. ■ t ,7
[To the Editor of the DailtJ Sir,-I was much surprised to see.the reasons given by tho judges at the late show for awarding the Daily trophy for the best specimen of local industry. To my raiud, their' reasons' will not hold Wj!'; If] thp flrsf "filagp " Ifttd tl)e judgment Ijcpii giyen fpv 'tUe best eppejmen of any iuctqsfryj the buggy would have secured it,' 1 The pdTprtised list of special praes most distinctly stated the prize was for that purpose, No mention was made about the greatest benefit to the people or district; and I have yet to learn that rabbit or sheepskins in auy form are more likely to benefit a community or district than either buggies, boots, caudles and soap, or indeed any of the other industries represented. Ido not for a moment think the judges intended to show partiality for any one firm, but when they give such reasons for awarding the prize as they have done, I should like them to go a little further and explain Jjcjv/ thg benefits to the community at large is t'i lib ga'inpif.' flie townspeople aro to be' clothed in sheepskins, mats, basil bibtij and rabbitskin caps, or what other combination of tho above-mentioned articles;' If so, advance Masterton I 1 1 Yours, Ac., Local.

SOUTH WAIRARAPA NOMINATION. ■" ♦ , (To the Editor Wairarapa Daily.) Feathevaton, December 2nd, Sir,—Mr Runny cho?e to take some remarks which I made in nominating Mr Buchanan on the Hustings at Eeatliereton as applying to linri in liis private capacity. The remarks I. made were' to the effect that Mr Buchanan, although a large landowner, worked such 'land for the public good, and as regards small farmers and the laboring classes, could be compared favorably with Mr Bunuy in the same capacity. Now because J' happened fo manager for Mr Bunny at Ijongwood njapiy years ago for lesß (ban one year, Mr Bunny attempted to throw all the discredit of his shortcomings as a large landholder for the publio good on my shoulders j but, sir,if Mr. Bunny, during the time I was his manager, had found me acting in opposition to the instructions given rae, woold : ; he not have given me my dismissal ? Leaving it to' tlio publie to judge between us, I ajßi &0., . . O.WmWAoaioa
