AN INSIGNIFICANT BABY.
A few days ago one of our ladies invited her five-year-old daughter to accompany her to the house of a friend who was the proud possessor of a brand new baby; the child was delighted and readily expressed her willingness. Much to the surprise of her mainmr, and no little chagrin, her daughter paid no more heed to the little pink and white baby than if it iiad been a good-sized frog, for which species she had a profound contempt; After the mother had returned home she asked her daughter why she had not paid more attention 'to the baby, and had not kissed it. " Did you not like Mrs Hill's baby, Stella f Stella gave her wise little head a disdainful toss, and her beautiful cherry lip a contemptuous curve, and replied : " No, I didn't like the baby ! It was no bigger 'an a cat 1"
