The County is apparently in Hie humour to accept responsibilities, and any step which tends, as this will do, to defino the works which are to be allowed between it and (be Eoad Boards will be ill tile direction of consolidating the functions of both bodies. Of course, ibe question of ways and means will bare to ho considered, Probably tolls will have for tho present to be relied upon as a basis of revenue for maintaining County roads. At some future date a more economical method of raising funds for road purposes will probably be devised, but at present the toll-gates may bo regarded as a practical necessity.
The sub-coiniuitteo of the Masterton Woollen Factory project met yesterday, Mr T. H. Murray in the chair, and decided to issue a prospectus. Circulars have been sont to various sawmillera of the Wairarapa requesting them to meet at Chew's Office, WilHb Street, Wellington, on Monday next, to consider tho advisability of raising the prico of timber. This is an indication of the times. - :
The Rev Mr Seaburn's readings at Greytown were not well attended on Wednesday evening, owing no doubt to the miserable weather. The Rev gentleman fully sustained tho reputation he gained at Wellington and other places, the audience being highly -pleased with the entertainment.
