The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1881.

«. The mayoral question lias now to bo settled in Masterton, It is not a very complicated one, and we believe the best man will be returned. By best man we mean the onu most fitter' frr the position, and the one who is likely to do the most for the town. The question as to which candidate has the better claim for th Inn: 1 is no'i very material, the real point to bo gained is sending in the best man. Mr A. Bish's past services in.the Council have been in his favor. He has spoken and acted in an honorable, straight forward manner, and is thoroughly trustworthy. His practical oxperiencc of business matters is inferior to that of his opponent, and for this reason we give the latter a preference. It will do Mr Bisn no barm to train for another year as a councillor before being returned as Mayor. We, do not believe that Mr Bisn would make other than a good mayor, but wo believe Mr Caseiberg would make a bettor. Mr Bish is running against a stronger horse than himself, and though he will be beaten he will not be far behind, Mr Caselberg placed a better programme before Ills audience on Wednesday last than }lv Bish. Though he indicated somewhat vaguely lite progressive measures which he believes will advance the interests of the town, it was evident j. that he is sincere in his desire to giv»

tho town "a lift," mid those who know' Mr Caselbero intimately have faith in his performing all that he pledges himself to. We have iii past years had some opportunity (.f judging Mr CaselBGito'a. capabilities as n public man, fie has some faults but tliey are very superficial in their character, On the other hand to sees clearly a-heacl of him the mark at which ,he aims, and he is indomitable in his efforts to attain his .object. He is capable not ODly .of designing a programme but also' of carrying it out. We feel assured that Mr Cabbhiero will be elected, and that (luring ihe.coming year he will initiate public works which will be'of permanent benefit to the town. In our 'next issue we will refer more in'detail to the policies enunciated by both candidates.
