ELECTION MEW
The name of Mr Robert Maun ;e11,J.P., of Tenui, has been mentioned r la possible candidate for Wairarapa North, Mr Maunsell is a settler who is very generally liked and respected, but hardly one to seek the turmoil of a contested election. The Hon Walter W. Johnston has issued his address to the electors of Manawatu. It is a brief one, and runs as follows :-Gentlemen,—l have the honor to again offer myself as a candidate for the representation of your district. I beg that you will continue to extend to me tho confidence which you have so generously accorded to me during so many yearc. Mr Price, the Go»d Templar candidate for the Te Aro electorate, addressed the electors last evening. His chief idea was the shutting up of the Custom House as a relic of feudalism—whatever that means —and heavily taxing incomes. He claims to have been a Chartist in England, and a Liberal in Auslralia. Charles Johnston has received a requisition to stand for both Te Aro and South Wellington.
