His cries foroneJßH drop of grog to support him in his agjHUH| were piteous to hear-the lafoawHHHf were untouched: nothing in food could ho obtain, except cafiBWRBI and dry bread. He feared hV-Tdd expire under the treatment; as a\fural WJ consequence oi his terror he fell into a B profuse prestation which collected in Jm large drops upon his noble and intslleo- H tual brow, and then coursed each ether H down his hollow cheeks. The ladies sat H beside his bed and, enjoyed the scene hut 9 their work was not yet done. Watching flj until their victim was almost fainting H •fromexhaustion, they suddenly tore off fl his blankots and wet bandages, and com- ■ menced to scrub him with rough towels, ■ heated seven times more than they were -™ WOUt to be heated. His cries were terrible; his entreaties for mercy heart- i vending. The only reply he could obtain I was in a soft and soothing voice, " Lie still, there's a dear" At length they ceased, and after wrapping him up in warm clothing left him to seek that repose of which he stood so much in need. On the following morning the old gentler man rather than undergo a repetition of such torture declared himself perfectly recovered. Who would not under similar circumstances make the same assertion ?
