MR RENALL'S MEETING.

■ .. f ; ; .■ - f , ;(To the Editor .WAbiRAfA Daily.) ; : Sib,—Absence from home has pre-, vented my. taking earlier notice of your, report of Mr Renall's late meeting. , • I should treat with the contempt it. deserves, Mr Renall's allusion to myself, but for itß connection with a public matter ; . but, . haying already clearly shown that my action in relation to what iB known as" Ward's 'section," was taken in compliance with a resolution of the Board of Trustees, and that the Board .was officially informed by the Government that they would not be justified in dealing with tiie land, I must remark that it seems impossible to account for Mr ■Renall's continued misrepresentations, excepting on the ground that he is guilty, either of an utter disregard for the truth,, or of such gross and obstinate stupidity «s prevents-his seejrig .things in their true and proper light. ' ' J - - '' j Mr Renall's addresses, which, he occasionally reminds his hearers, are for their "eddification," have ho attraction for md, but the reverse. No doubt, they afford amusement to. some, of a kind that would be created by any, mountebank perfprl mance; but it is greatly to bo regretted that whilst the Government is giving the rising generation an' education which should enable them to become respectable members of society, and to take, in the future, an intelligent in public affairs, the example .continually set before them : , in the person of His Worship the Mayor of Maaterton,> is; calculated to diminish their respect for law and order, and even for common decency, and.to.convert them to the lowest rowdyism. j ' : ■ ';I am, &6.,- I'; :I '''■•■ J, Valbntine Smith, i
