MASTERTON RABBIT DISTRICT.
A meeting of the Trustees of the above (Hatpjflt waj Mi on Saturday. Present-Messrs Stewart (Chairman), Welch, Campbell, Gunderson, and Cave, Tlie winces of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The correspondence inwards and outI wards wbb also read, I The Seoretary reported that Messrs ft «TP & Co. would be able to supply 350 phosphorus, and that they had US 8 n . ■!!"« uuptoMr T. D'Arcy as soon as possible. Two accounts, one from Messrs Payton « Co., M 10; and ono for election expenses, £l3 2s lid; wore passed for-pay-ment. , TJlg ideations, ten in number, for the appomtment of Inspector, were then considered. The three most eligible were then ballotted for, the result being in favor of Mr James Harvey, jun., the appomtment to date from Monday, the 11th inst.. .
M * Bunny attended, and represented to the Trustees that his position with regard to, the. Board was,-in bis opinion, upsatisfactory, although no regular appointment psohcitorto the Trustees had been made. His impression was' that it was their intention in placing the first cases in his hands, to appoint him as solicitor. He now found, however, that the late Trustees jwd placed certain, cases in the hands of another solicitor. He was desirous, therefore, that the Trustees should consider the question, and send him a reply, as an opinion might get abroad that he had not conducted the cases in a satisfactory manner. -
The Trustees having'promised that the BUbject should receive their consideration, Mr Bunhr withdrew. •■ '
The . becretary was subsequently directed, to write to Mr Bunny, the majority 01 the-Trustees having expressed p ppinion that Mr.Btinny should bo appointed as solicitor to the Board. Theappointmenfcof a treasurer; which waj left over from the' previous meeting waß next considered, and on'the motion of Mr Welch seconded by Mr Stewart, Mr Gnnderson was T appointed to.the office. Ee rate.—lt was resolved that a rate of id per acre be levied for the current year on ihe properties of all landowners within the district; and the secretary was instructed tpgivepublio notice of the inter., to levy this rate. •-' 1 Mr JJ, Bannister, the late Inspector f*?^-"?? 3 statqa that Mr ' Beardhad fslced'bun.towaiton the trustees and piibra thein that Wing to the absence of a material witness J the case against Mr Jones Had been dismissed, and that If the trustees desired to proceed with it, a fresh informafion'would have to be laid. The Secretary, was instructed to have notioes under the 18th section printed, and it was re'solved that it be an instruction to the Inspector to serve notices on all landowners where properties were infested with rabbits.
The meeting then adjourned till Saturday the 23r4 inst., at 11 a.m.
