GREYTOWN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The committee meeting of the abovo Society was held on Saturday, the 9th inst. Present—Messrs W. G. Beard (in the chair), Brooks, Bock, Spratt, Barrett, York, Porrit, and the secretary. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting was hold immediately after the above meeting, and was well attended, Mr W. G. Beard having been voted to the chair, tho minutes were read and con. firmed, and the balance-sheet and committee's report read and confirmed. The following election of officers was then mnde:—President—J. P. Russell; Vice-Presidents—W. G. Beard, and H. Braithwaite; Secretary and Treasurer— A. L. Webster; Committee—Messrs Spratt, Bock, Porritt, Yorke, Barrett, Brooks, Kompton, Loasby, Bright, Wilkie, Varnhara, Mills, Hollard, Black and Cuff. Mr Brooks suggested, in a lengthy Bpeech, the desirability of having a spring show at Carterton on the same day as tho Agricultural and Pastoral Show day. The idea was very favorably received by the meeting, but several strong objections were advanced, suoh as the want of a suitable building. It was agreed that the Masterton Society should be asked to cooperate with Greytown, and hold one grand central Show at Carterton. After considerable discussion, it was resolved on the motion of My W, Brooks, seconded by Mr Barrett, that a committee consisting of Messrs Beard, Bock, and Braithwaite be appointed to communicate with the the Masterton Secretary re show at Carterton.

The Secretary was instructed to enroll as many members .pf the Society as possible at opofl, " ■ It was resolved on'the motion of the Eev Mr Porritt, seconded by Mr Brooks —That the Spring and Autumn Shows be Jield in Greytown as usual. Repolved-That Messrs Beard Book, Porritt, Spratt, and Webster, be a committee to arrange for an.entertainment in aid of the Society.
