WAIRAEAPA JOCKEY CLUB.-. : A meeting of the 'Stewards of the Wairarapa Jockey Club took place at the White Hart Hotel, Carterton, on Saturday, afternoon,
Present—Messrs N. Grace (Chairman), , W. 0. Buchanan, and J. C. Vallance. The secretary having reported that all' outstanding accounts had: been paid, the confirmation,of the minutes of the last meeting brought , business ,in connection with the last race meeting to a doge. Immediately "after a general meeting 6f the members was held.
: Present—Messrs J. P. Eussell .(President), Buchanan, Vallance, N. & T. Grace, P. F. & S.' Tancred, W. 0, "Williams, J. o.;Hayward, John Macaraj and J. M. Girdlestone.
The minutes of the previous meeting having been road and confirmed, the election of members nominated prior to the autumn meeting, and passed by the stewards was confirmed, and several new members duly nominpted. A committee, consisting of . Messrs Wardell, W. 0. Wilhams, . it Grace, and the Secretary, -was appointed to supervise the ploughing, harrowing; rolling,, and sowing with grass-seed the racing-track, The same gentlemen were requested to obtain an estimate, and report to next' meeting, of the probable cost of fencing the inside of the course. • ' -
The Secretary wis directed to take the necessary steps to stop encroachment of the river a little below the bridge, and as all entries for the District Eace of 1884 were foals and yearlings; to request nominators to -furnish him with distinctive marks of nominations; • also,', to ascertain if nominators were willing to let Mr Vallance's nomination "Ruth" pass, she having been foaled in Hawkes Bay. It'was decided that, the entrance fee at the outside gate should for the future be Is, and that members of tlie Club only should be admitted free. ' _ The necessary expenditure was authorized for planting portions of the river bank with willows, and some pines inside the course.
