KURIPUNI RAILWAY STATION ROAD.
[To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily.] Kuripuni, March 17i Sir,—ln answer to the deputation that waited. on His Worship tho Mayor and Councillors on the 16th, re the opening of he Kuripuni Railway Road. The Mayor ■ stated, in reply'to Mr Shute, that the Knripuni road laid off to the'sta'tion could not be called a road or street in the meaning of the Act, as it had not been used as such. Now, Sir, I would ask how could the road be .used, as it is covered with dense forest, and if the bush was fallen and parts of it 'cleared, and a bridge or culvert over the stream, I have every reason to believe it would be used for general traffic a great deal more than Victoria street,, for many years to come. By the Mayor's remarks- the outside public would be lead to believe that the roads is a, cleared piece of ground only not formed and metalled. Cr Gapper, in his remarks, stated the Council did not wish to ignore the claims of this road, and'at the same time pointed out that a counter petition might be brought up objecting to the special rate. Sir, it strikes me very forcibly that Cr Gapper would object to the. road in spite of his assurance on behalf of the Council that they did not wish to ignore the claims of the Kuripuni ratepayers. I am, &c, ' Another ratepayer, Kuripuni, March 17th, 1881,
