■MrHuttonreported that Messrs Hopkins and Dundee were making satisfactory progress with their 'contracts in Hallstreet and Bennington's, line, the former being all but completed ;,and that Bentley Bros were pushingori with their contract in Chapel-street, though they had necessarily been delayed by bad weather. The Works Committee's report was also read. It was to much the same effect as the Overseer's report. . , Or ..Bish 'complained that the metal being put on the ground by contractors was much too large. Or Renall said thatthe metal had been passed at the pit, but he admitted that it was too coarse,

The Inspector of- Nuisances reported that the creek running through the'centre of the town required- te be cleaned out, and recommended that notice be give to Messrs .Payton'i Robert Donald, Elkins, Gray: and Prammond to clean it as far'as their premises extend, with the exception of Mr Drumraond, on whose ground he considered three chains of clearing would be sufficient. He also reported that the sides of Renall's .bridge, in Queen-street, wereoutof repair, the wire being-broken onthem-.Bo.that accidents with children falling through had taken place. Ho .recommended boards toi be substituted for wires,
