It is reported that a Maori prophet named Paora Reta, is engaged stirring up the Te Ore Ore natives, a large body of whom are now assembled there. This is the same native who very recently created a disturbance at Napier. He commenced by christening the Te Aute river the Jordan, and baptising and professing miraculous things. The Napier natives not proving as credulous as he expected, he beat a hasty retreat, coming to the. Wairarapa, where he, is trying to make mischief. He predicts 1 a second, deluge, in which the Europeans will be the- victims, and the Maoris rescued By the gods. A meeting of the \Vairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Show Committee was held at Carterton on Thursday, when Messrs W. 0. Buchanan (president), E.G. Moore (vice-president), H. McMaster, 0.; H. Gayfor, N. Grace, W. Booth, H, Braithwaite, E. R, Arm strong, and J." Strang: were present, The secreta-ry.reported that certain repairs to the yards and grounds had been, effected at a small cost, Mr Tancred's name was added to the show committee, on the .motion of Mr Braithwaite seconded by Mr Moore, The secretary was instructed to inform the Patea Association chat owing to their , show being held.the.day prior to the Wairarapa show, the latter Society would not be able to nominate any judges, but hoped the dates arranged for next year will be so altered as-to enable each Society to reciprocate. Resolved 1 that that the president and secretary see to the advertising and printing of catalogues, A letter was read from the Traffic Manager of Railways stating his willingness to assist the Society iu every possible way, and that on further, information from the department he would communicate with the president. It was resolved that the Colonial Secretary be written to asking him to proclaim the sth November a public holiday'in the Wairarapa. That- arrangements be made if possible for . cheap trains to run on the day of show. That on the production of a written acceptance of the entry in either class A, B, or Oby the compiler of the N.Z.
