MASTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the above was held on the 12th inst. Present—Messrs Bennett (Chairman), Chamberlain, Buchanan, Minchin, and Donald. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The following correspondence was likewise read Letter from Mr Butters, calling the Board's attention to the state of the road between the Waitowhiti Stream .and his homestead at Tiraumea, One from Mr Tuck, stating that lie would comply with the Board's request as soon as he possibly could. One from Mr John Moore, urgently requesting I he Board to continue the survey of the Brancepeth and Forryhurst road in the'direction of his homestead. . One from the Clerk of the West County as to.the payment of the £2OO voted by the West. County to the Board. Letters from Clerks of the Castle Point, Taratahi, and Featherston Highway Boards re levying rates on educational reserves. ' : * _One from Messrs Riitherfurd, Hood, Gibson and others, "requesting the Board to reconsider the decision it came to at

last meeting to dispense with the services of the person employed in. keeping the Upper Taueru road, and reinstate him again. The Engineer's report was given in and read. The following resolutions were then passed That Mr Beetham be requested to in-, 'form Kaharutu that the Board will accede to his request, and allow the fencing erected on the line of road leading to Wainuioru to remain until the Ist September next, That the request of the Public Works Committee of the West County (made to the Chairman) that they should have the services of the Board's Engineer for a time be granted, on the understanding that when requested by the Board to undertake any work for them he is to do so, ,

That the Secretary write to Mr Butters, and inform him that his request will be taken into consideration at next meeting. That Mr Moore be informed that the Engineer is at present engaged on County work, but that his request will be complied with at the very earliest possible time. .

_ 'i'hat Mr Donald be informed that m view of No. 6 Ward separating from the Masterton Highway District, it i'b quite possible that the services of John White, the person employed in keeping the roads in repair in that Ward, will be dispensed with, and that he be informed of this resolution.

That Messrs Hood, Rutherford, and others be informed that as the resolution re the discharge of the person employed in keeping the Upper Taueru road in repair was passed at a full meeting of the Board, they do not feel justified in rescinding it until the whole of the members of the Board are present, and that in the meantime Mr Hood and'others, who only pay rates to the Castle Point Board, but use the road in coming to Masterton, be asked to apply to that Board for a grant to assist in keeping it iu repair. That Mr Minchin be authorised to expend £2 103 on repairs to the road leading to Alfredton.

That M. MclCenzie's wages be raised from 7s to 8s per day. That the Collector be instructed to take immediate proceedings against all in arrears with rates.
