THE ABORTION CASE.
~+~— To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily, Sie,—George Lorimer was arrested /?) without a warrant at Carterton on Thursday, charged with attempting to procure abortion upon one.Kate Ohitty. No evidence to the point whatever ,was pumped from the droughty witnesses, .and Detective Sullivan was severely reprimanded by H. S. Wardell, Fsq,,R.M., for the arrest of the accused, Mr Lorimer being admitted to bail ,on his own recognisances, pending the more expensive and laborious investigation of the expert Hibernian. The. unfortunate youuz lady was not examined, since, after the three or four hours' bullying, to which she was submitted, whilst lying at death's door, by the humane detective, no information of a character to'criminate the accused could be elicited, although threats of ten years' imprisonment for her were putintofe. sition. We are happy to state tftat the" young lady is able to be up and about, and is doing well. , No doubt .Carterton is easily excited,. and the hipipotamic investigations of our worthy detective is enough to .excite aotivity, if not mirth, in people less lethargic than those even in Carterton. No doubt Detective Sullivan will gain his due mede of praise, ■■ Carterton.
