TARATAHI-CARTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
♦ The Board met on Tuesday, 25th May, at the office, Carterton. Present—Messrs Booth (Chairman), Lister-Kaye, B, Boys, L. JNix, Straw bridge, Welch, and J, Reynolds. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The balance in the bank was reported to be L 673 9s; of that amount the tollgate account is Ll2B 8s 6d, leaving the wards account at L 545 6d. The Chairman stated that he had waited upon County West at its last meeting re removing the County office to Masterton, and that Councillor McGregor had obtained leave to postpone his motion to the next meeting. Accounts amounting to L 162 lis 6d were passed for payment. The Engineer's report was read, which stated that works on the Belvidere road was progressing satisfactorily, and recommended that about four chains of the south side of the road between the two culvert bridges should be fascinedj the stakes to be three feet above the surface. —file matter was left in the hands of the Chairman. The Cnairman reported receipt of a subscription of L 5 from Mr Krull towards metalling Belvidere road, The following tenders were opened : Moffatt's line, No 5 Ward, draining and formation, G. Grout, 9a per chain (accepted). There were six other tenders, the highest being 24s 9d per chain. Moffatt's line, bush falling, H. J. Gawler, 6s per chain (accepted), Fourteen other tenders, highest being 17s 6d per chain. Perry's line, No 1 Ward, formation, W. Gillard & Co. (accepted) 7s 6d per chain, Eight other tenders, highest 14s 6d. Walker's line, No 3 Ward, formation and clearing, 0, Meerwood'l7s per chain, (accepted), Bight other tenders, highest 455. No 2 Ward, White's line, formation and culverts, S. Oats, jun,, L2O 16s (accepted). One other tender, L 27. Waterson's line, James PhelpV. LIG, < Three other tenders, highest L' 22. CORRESPONDENCE, Inwards—From Mr Coleman Phillips re handing over Joseph's line, Matarawa, to the Board, which was declined in consequence of Mr Phillips having already let tenders on the road j from Waiohine ..River Board re collection of rates; from' R. Fairbrother, re gravel pit on section 240, asking for part payment and to fence' off the acre. RESOLVED. .. That Mr Fairbrother be granted £l2 ■los-' on account, of. purchase of gravel pit. That the.Native Minister be addressed, asking oil what conditions the Natives hold, the -Burunuiorangi reserve, .and whether they have, power to make arrangements for another important road through the reserve, ; . . ; TENDERS. , Tenders to be called for the following work Anderson's line, 10 chains formation and 30 chains formation, Nix's line, 11 chains formation. Morris' line, 3 chains formation.
