They had their own business to attend to, and it was not fair to expeot them to give other time than necessary for the good government of the Borough, and execution of its works,
... Or Kempton expressed the opinion that as the Works Committee had successfully. laid' out the most difficult part of the footway, it would be like throwing cold water upon them, in addition to the'cost to the Borough, which would not be less than £lO.
|: Or Udy thought that the!resolution would make it appear that those who had' done the work hitherto were incompetent, , For his part he did not wish to put himself forward, but thought that the' Council should save money when the .could, as it would all be required. _ His Worship thought it would be a pity to ask an Engineer to lay off the proposed footway, as it waßso much more simple than the-previous contracts, and if the expense could be saved.it should. He did not think : it necessary in this instance, and would ask the Works Committee to continue the duties which they had undertaken and carried out so satisfactorily. Or Barnard explained'that his intention had been' misconstruee.- He" did hot reflect upon the past action of the Committee, but would, with the consent of his seconder, withdraw his resolution.
