Of 50 sovs; two miles, seven flights hurdles. Kangaroo 1 Tamatea,.. 2 Lonehaud 3 Kangaroo pulled this off, fairly beating the Australian horse Lonehaud, who baulked obstinately, Te Whetu, who fell at the last jump, and Tamatea, who also baulked. Kangaroo refused once, ultimately winning a good race by a length. There was much cheering at the success of the Wairarapa veteran. Higginson rode him well. Shamrock had an easy win in the Hack Hurdle Race. Eclipse, of show yard fame, was second. Higginson steered the winner. Wellington Cop. Of 400 sovs., second horse 30 sovs.; two miles. Foul Play 1 Lara ... ,2 Hailstorm 3 Twelve started, Hailstorm being the first.to break the line, although Lara was trying hard for the lead. The Wangahui horse led past the Stand, King Quail and Lara next;, "the others in a crowd at their heels. This order Was maintained all the way round to the three-quarter post, when many changes occurred in the rear division. Hailstorm still led, and maintained it to the turn, where many of them made their effort. A magnificent race round the turn ensued, without an accident, the pace all through being exceptionally good. Hailstorm was still in front entering the straight, when Lara, on the inside, andToul Play on the right came at him. The suspense was breathless, as until the distance was reached no one could say what would home, loud cries proclaiming the victory of each horse, that occupied foremost position. Nolan did his best to gist Lara up, but had te be satisfied with second place. Hailstorm was third, about a length behind s Lara, then came the others in a bunch which it was impossible to separate. , ; . The. time—3.37—speaks the brilliant pace all through.
