It has been discovered that the entry of Campion's horse Commission for Ihe Empire Plate was not only informal, but an attempt to swindle the racing Club, On the night of general entry only two nominations were recpived—Sailor, and Harkaway; two days later the 'entry of Commission was received and accepted, as the envelope bore the Otaki postmark of the 19th. The fact of the letter coming to hand two days late provoked suspicion, and inyestieation lad to the admission of. the postmaster at Otaki that tho letter was not posted till the 20th and stamped by him with the previous day's stamp to suit the convenience of the writer. The postmaster has been suspended.
[ LONDON. . Jan. 20. In consequence of the jealous and unfriendly attitude of Italy with regard, to the proposed European coalition against Russia on account of Austria being in the league, the German Government has conveyed an official warning to the Italian Ministry against committing themselves' to any act of hostility against Austria.
Ayoub,Khan, brother of the late Araeer, Governor of Herat, who left the latter city in December last with twelve regiments, with the intention, it is supposed, of attacking Kandahar, has effected a junction with Mohamed Jan at Ghuznee, where the latter rallied Kohistans after their defeat. The two armies together form a formidable body of men, and it is believed they intend to make a combined attack on Cabul, where General Roberts has isolated himself for the winter.
