GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The annual meeting of the Council for the installation of Mayor and ordinary business was held at tho Council Chambers vestonlav,'
Present: His Worship, T, Kempton, Esq., Councillors Udy, R. V. Smith, J. Smith, Barnard, Fuller, Wakelin, Baillie, and Gray,
The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were rend and confirmed.
Councillor J. Smith then made the usual declaration and took his seat as Mayor, and in a few appropriate words thanked the Council and burgesses for the honorable position they had placed him in, as follows
Gentlemen, I thank you cordially and also the burgesses of Greytown for the honorable position you have conferred upon mo. I trust that during my term of office we will work together amicably, as we have hitherto done, and perform our duties faithfully; ancl also unite in our efforts to manage the affairs of this Borough with wisdom, with moderation, and with justice. Having but one aim in view, the welfare of our Borough, I trust tiat you will attend the meetings with punctuality for the dispatch of business. I will conclude by again thanking you and the burgesses of this town who have placed me in the office which I now occupy.
Councillor Udy proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor for the manner in which lie had conducted the business during his term of office, which was seconded by Councillor Gray and carried nem con,
Councillor Barnard proposed a vote of thanks to Councillor ¥dy for the able manner lie had occupied the chair in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor. Carried nem, con.
Councillor Udy thanked the Council for the compliment, andsnid that he would endeavour in the future as hitherto to do his beat for the benefit of the Borough. The ordinary business of the Council was then proceeded with Ihe report of the Works Committee was read, recommending a box culvert to be hpd across Humphries line from Fabian's to Witton's corners to meet the present water table,, and that the amount charged by W, Morris for extra work was fair and reasonable.

Mr Tait attended the meeting re a dispute that had arisen over formation of main road, Uio clauses bearing on the matter were read and the consideration of same referred to the Works Committee, with p >\vev to act, on the niotion of Councillor Wakeliti seconded by Councillor Fuller, ; KE LICENSES. Councillor Baillie moved, Councillor Udy seconded, That the amounts payable by iiiuvkers, carters, etc., be advertised. Attention was called to the urinal at the Uismy Sim, and it was suggested that tlie Inspector of Nuisances should be in-st-iucted to order the removal of same. notices of motion. Councillor It. Smith gave notice that at next, meeting he would move that spacial trespass rates of 4s on main street and b:i m East and West streets be levied. Councillor Barnard gave notice that he would move, That taking into consideration the Treasurer's statement of income find expenditure, and the small amount of uigent work likely to be required, the uvw do receive one month's notice, ihc meeting thou adjourned.
