WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Committee of the above Society was held at its offices, Carterton, on Friday, the 17th inst. Present—Messrs Pharazyn (President), F. G. Moore, L. Nix, J. Drummond, W. C. Buchanan, B. Boys, and H. Braithwaite.
Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Secretary reported that Mr W. G. Beard, the solicitor to the Society, had accepted four debentures in full settlement of his claim for professional services amounting to £45 5s lOd. The bank account disclosed the following balances :-General Fund, Or., £65 13s 2d; Debenture Account, Dr., £M 13s Gd. It was resolved that the sum ol £6O should be transferred from the formei to reduce the overdraft on the lattei account.
Two subscriptions of LI Is each from Messrs Mawley and Dodgshun and S. E. Gapper were paid in by Messrs Buchanav and Nix.
_ Several small accounts against the Society, amounting in the aggregate to L6O 16s Gd, were laid before the meeting, and with the exception of one item of L 3 for printing 1000 programmes of the forthcoming show, were directed to stand over for future consideration. The debenture list showed that nine debentures, four of which had been issued, had been taken up but not paid for, and that eleven still remained for disposal. The Secretary was directed to apply for payment of those taken up. Mr Drummond having informed the meeting that Messrs James Thompson (Akiteo) and C. R. Bidwell (Pihautea), who were entitled to the cup presented by Mr Hislop at the show had agreed to present the same in augmentation of prizes for horses at the ensuing show, the Secretary was directed to write and get their formal consent to the arrangement. The _ Secretary was also instructed to obtain and open the following books ; ''General Fund account," showing the assets and liabilities of the Society, " Debenture account," showing a credit and debit with the holder of each debenture, " Show accounts, showing the receipts and expenditure in connection with each show, and a " Prize account," and also to lay before each meeting a statement of liabilities incurred. Entry forms were also directed to be sent to each exhibitor at last year's show, and to Messrs Wood (Greytown), and Brown (Masterton). Mr Buchanan reported that he and Mr McMaster had seen Mr Blondqvist as to leasing the show ground, but that he had declined taking up the lease, but was willing to look after the ground free of charge. Also that a post and wire fence around the inner enclosure of the ground would cost about £l2,
On the motion of Mr Buchanan, seconded by Mr Nix, it was resolved that the fence be erected at a cost not exceeding £l2, the works to be done under the supervision of Messrs Nix and Braithwaite.
On,disonssion it appeared the liability of the Society for prizes awarded was as follows: —1877- First prizes (medals), L 29 8s; money prizes, U. 1878—First prizes, L 74 lis; money prizes, L 7, and a cup of the value of LlO 10s awarded to Mr D. McMaster. The following gentlemen were nominated for judges, and the secretary directed to write them to obtain their consent to act :-Horses, Blood: Messrs Gairford and J. Lyons; Draught: Messrs Donald Coutts and John Stevens. Cattle: Hon. Colonel Whitmore and Mr Hislop, Sheep: Hon, Ernest Grey and Mr Paul. Pigs; Messrs J. Gear and C, Cundy. Poultry: Mr Burton Boys. Dogs: Messrs Gairford, Lyons, and Boys. Implements: Messrs J. Harding and T. H. Hill. The committee adjourned about 4 o'clock p.m. till the 27th inst.
