engineer's report, Makakahi Bridge.—This contract, with tho exception of painting the bridge at the upper crossing, is now completed. The bridges are built in a workmanlUe and satisfactory manner, and with good mate-

Eketahuna to Alfredton Road -The works throughout this line are beinc executed m a very satisfactory manner, and they would have been much further advanced lwd the weather been at all favorable The total length felled and cleared is 040 chillis; total length formed. 2G5 chains. Progress payments due:-Con-tract No 2 (James lloiiriyan), £131; contract jNo 3 (Green and Donohue) £2oo' contract No 4 (James Hourigan) £Bo.' l ie survey for formation is completed to Alfredton.

le Ore Ore Road (Dixon's Contract) Owing to the wet stato of the road-bed Mr Dairbrotherhas not been able to do much work on this contract. Tenders were received on the 22nd of last month for cutting thirty chains of an outlet drain on Te Ore Ore, that of Mr Miles, for one pound three shillings per chain was accepted,

[ Opaki to Manawatu Road. -One of the budges on this road is especially unsafe • the wmg walls are burnt out and the piles' of one pier are broken near the surface of the ground. As this bridge spans a creek which is subject to considerable floods and as the failure of the pier was partlv owing to the weight of embankment behindit, I would recommend the erection ot it bridge somewhat longer than the present one. John King, County Engineer.

WArniN T E Rivek, To the Ch; irnian Wiiiraiap i West County Council. Sir,—l have at your request examined the Waiohinc river bank, and the works carried on by the Board during i Impost two months. I consider the "work has been performed with considerable judg-

ment as a protection to Mr Udy's property. _ The overseer has just commenced to put in some piles and take the necessary steps to divert the current from Mr Fuller's paddock and the high road at a spot which I understand was pointed out by Mr,Eng. Had this been done a month or six weeks before, it might have kept the river nearly a chain further from the road than it is at present. I think the river may be diverted very soon if the present work is carried out. W. Skeet.

To the Chairman Wairarapa West County Council. Sir,—l beg to' report that I have examined the protective works now being cuted by the Greytown River Board, Uthe right bank of the Waiohine River ® the purpose of protecting the main roim at a place known as Fuller's Paddock. It was understood by the Chairman of the Board and myself that the £l5O voted by the \v airarapa West County Council, should be spont in protecting the portion of the bank above referred to, and in the event of there being a balance left it should be spent further up the stream. I estimate the value of the works done at JoiiN Kino, County Engineer.
