(from our own correspondent.) October Ist, 1879. I scarcely know where to commence to gather a few fragments together in the shape of news. In a district like this where settlers are so few and so scattered news is generally scarce. The weather for the last week has been very changeable, when in hopes of the roads improving we have had heavy rain, making matters nearly as bad as ever, so it will be a matter of time before regular traffic can be expected. To give an idea of the state of things m that direction, I may state that Mr Murray arrived at Belliss' station, Tinui Valley, on Saturday, with 500 fat sheep from Armstrong's station, Akiteo, en route for Masterton. On seeing tho state of the roads, he determined to return by the ship to Akiteo rather than risk considerable loss. Rumor has it that the new hotel is tobe built opp-site Sutherland's store, but reports are so contrary that no reliance can be placed on them. . The Club Hotel, at Cashpoint appears to be doing a fair business, and well it may, for a better conducted house is not often found, all comforts pertaining to home are to be found at this establishment, and those seeking health at the sea- A side will find every comfort at this ho * tel.
