TINUI
(FROM Oi'R OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Sept, 4th, 1879, There is but lit ! le b communicate this week. In a small community like this, news is sometimes very scarce, and as for anything in (ho way of progressive works and enterprise, everything is at a standstill. ' The Highway Board met on Saturday, but I have not learnt whether there was anything above the usual routine of business. I see that Mr Armstrong of Akiteo is elected for that Ward, in place of Mr Kenrick. resigned. An aber meciing took place of the Commiii'cc iiiieresic'd in pei ruing Parliament for our much needed wuiis. The draft of the petition was submitted, and after a slight alteration, was unanimously approved of. The weather for the last week has been splendid, and (rallic wi'l no doubt soon resume its former activity. I hear (hat there is nothing definite as yet as to building Miller's new hotel. Rumor has it that the store is to be turned into an hotel, but reports are very contradictory. The i oil-gate is now shified opposite Mr BM;ei'(the lessee's) residence. The wed her is again cloudy and appearances are for more rain, which will, if moderate, be welcome.
A reminiscence of the Crimean war, though late, may yet be acceptable on account of its naivete. An Irishman of the 83th Regiment was brought up for striking a French sentinel. On being asked to explain the incident said: "I heard someone say ' Qui va la V ' Jo,' said I, speaking in the language. 'Ou est votre lantorne!' 'II is sortie,' says I meaning it had gone out. ' Comment,' remarked the sentinel; ' Come on' says I and I gave him one."
