THE WAY THEY DO IT.
He knew of one ease where the valuator was a most violent political partisan, who had under him a very important district, In that district ho valued the property of a person to whom he had ever been politically opposed—he (Mr Waterlwuse) did not know that he had done it purposely, but persons of that kind could not help having biassed minds—at £165,000, valuing hill tops covered with snow, 7000 feet high, at £4 an acre, In that case the owner of tho property wrote to the Commissioner, stating that he was quite prepared to take half the valuation for the whole of the property. The Commissioner with a stroke of his pen, reduced the valup to £IOO,OOO, The owner of tho property still refused to accept that amendment, and the case had yet to be decided before the Appeal Court.
