CARTERTON.
(from our own correspondent.) ' July 22,1879. A meeting of the Carterton Amateur Dramatic Club/took place last night, nearly all the [members being present, and the interest taken in ' this association by tne members is one of the most energe- , tic I have ever known in any movement 1 in our midst. From the Treasurer and I Secretary's report it appeared that although great expense hud been incurred •in the erection of the'stage scenery, after all liabilities, are accounted for there is still a balance of £4 in hand with subscriptions due to tiie amount of £6 outstanding which it is to be hoped will be speedily paid : up. Several new members active and. honorable were ballotted for and elected membeis of the Club. Mr Hooker was Unanimously elected president and the other officers secretary, treasurer, stage manager, <k, wore ballotted for and elected, an executive committee was appointed, and a vote of thanks passed to all those, actors and workers, who had so greatly tended to the success of the recent performance. Altogether I believe this to be one of the most promising sources of amusement that has ever been started in the Wairarapa,
