| (PROJI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) July 1?, 1879. I Carterton anti-Boroughites v. would be I Boroughites .—Judgment for plaintiffs, notice of appeal by defendant. Judgment as follows : Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, 14th July, 1879. Messrs Bennett, Hooker, and others, Carterton, Wairarapa, Gentlemen, Adverting to-Mr Pollen's letter of the 13th May last, I am directed to inform you that as a Petition against the constitution of Carterton into a Borough hais been presented to the Governor, signed by a greater number of persons'than the petition in favor ef such constitution, the Colonial Secretary is unable to advise His Excellency to proclaim Carterton to be a Borough under the " Municipal Corporations Act, 1876.—1 have, &c., G. S. COOPER. Grounds of Appeal,—l. That certain statements contained in the counter-peti-tion are not in accordance with facts. 2. That many signatures were obtained under a misstatement of the operation of the provisions of cert«ih clauses; of the Act. So let us have a Commission before the final funereal rights are performed over our poor old Carterton Borough.
