At Cambridge to-day considerable excitement was caused in the Native Lands Court byTauherua, who violently addressed the Court on the dispute over the decision in the Okaiau case. At the native meeting to consider the petition to the Governor, Ankahcre was opposed to the petition, and spoke against all land purchases, suggesting leasing should be substituted for sales, He argues that the opening of lands to direct perchase, and stop the Government influence, would bring the country into constant trouble, He was willing to leave these matters for the Government and law to decide, and he was not a supporter of the petition, nor would he sign it.
