GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening last. ' Preseiit-Crs Udy, J. Smith, Barnard, Gray, Fuller, and R. V. Smith. Cr Udy was voted to the chair. ■ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ■ CORRESPONDENCE—OUTWARDS To Collector of Customs, re licenses, To Trust Lands Trustees re pound. • '•■ INWARDS. ■ From the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand,-Greytown; From the Secretary of the Treasury, re portions of subsidy due to the Borough, on rates collected by the Featherston-Highway district; From G. Beetham Esq., re subsidy due to the Local Board; From Mr E. Ticehurst, reqliesti'ng.a footpath of about two chains to be constructed to his house.
PETITION. From residents at south end of Weststreet, .requesting repairs to the portion from the intersection with Humphries' line continuing for 18 chains southward. RESOLUTIONS. Resolved-Tliat the petition from residents be referred to the Works Committee. • .That the Clerk be instructed to prepare Balance sheet as requested. That tne letter from the Manager of the bank be referred to tho Finance Committee. That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Commissioners of Audit, re the amount of 'subsidy due the Bprough upon rates collected by the Featherstoh ' Highway Board on property now included in the Borough. ' , It. was resolved that the Town Clerk bo instructed to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Beetham's letter. It was resolved that the letter from Mr E. Ticehurst be referred to the Works Committee.
Cr RV V. Smith moved, and Cr J. Smith seconded, That it is the opinion of the Council that the public buildings be not removed, and that the Clerk be instructed to write to the Government asking their intention respecting them, and pointing out the unfairness of removing them.
Mr Kempton moved as an amendment, That the matter should stand over until a full meeting of the Council,
Mr Kempton's amendment not being seconded, the resolution was put and carried.
. It was resolved, that the Overseer be instructed to make crossings at once at different places, and that Cr Udy be asked to point out to the Overseer the places necessary, and to instruct the Overseer to place a few loads of gravel opposite the Working Meu's Club, and that the holes in the main road at south end of Greytown be cleared out and gravelled, and that the attention of the Works Committee be directed to road from Miss Wyet's to Greytown, and report at next sitting. Cr Kempton reported that Mr Moffat had offered to assist with horse and cart, and further improve the White Pine Creek if the Council would instruct the Overseer to assist him.
That Cr Udy • instruct the Overseer respecting the same. Or Udy reported that the alterations in specifications for works to Kuratawhiti Road had been pegged off, and tenders invited for works, and that it would be necessary to build a bridge near the house of Mr H. Udy junr. TENDERS. The following tenders were opened : T. Wiggins, for section No. 123,8 chains 20 links at 35/ per chain, providing the the gravel for same may be taken from road reserve according to specifications, and for sections 4 5 and G, 15 chains at £llßs per chain,
From W, Saywell; for sections from 1 to 6, at 35/ per chain,
It was resolved that tenders were considered too high, and that tenders be called for horses and carts, as may bo required for Borough works at per day, for six months.
As there were no tenders for the work on Collins' line, it was resolved that the same stand over for the present,
It was resolved that a meeting of Works and Finance Committees be convened for Monday next, af/p.nr The meeting then adjourned,
