MASTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the Board was held 011 Saturday last. Present Messrs Bennett (chairman), Buchanan, Minchin, Chamberlain, and Beetham. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was also read Letter from Mr Thos, Hitchings, informing the Board that during a late ilood a culvert on the main road in No. G Ward had been burst open, whereby all traflic had been stopped, and that he had taken it upon himself to get it repaired, which cost £1 10s Od, which amount ha asked the Board to refund. Ono from E. Meredith at to the state of the road on Longhill, and suggesting that a person should be appointed to have any repairs, of a pressing character made good, and also stating that a meeting of the ratepayers was to be held to decide upon what works the amount due to the Ward should be expended.

One. from Mr Hitchings, forwarding copy of resolutions passed at a meeting of the ratepayers in No, G Waul.

One from F, G. Moore, tendering his resignation as warden for No. 6 Ward of the district.

One from Messrs Moorhouse, Edwards, and Cut'ten, claiming £l5O as compensation for land to be taken from Mr Berry for a proposed road at Taueru. The Engineer's report was given in and read.

Mr McLachlan waited on the Board with reference to payment for bush falling on his property, and requesting liberty to fall more.

The Chairman reported that the work referred to in Mr Meredith's letter had been attended to.

RESOLUTIONS. , The following resolutions were then passed " That consideration or Ml ; Hitcliing's letter, forwarding copy of resolution, be postponed till next meeting.

" That the Secretary write to the Hon. the.Minister for Publie..Works for fresh authority to lay off roads through the Te Witi block, the one formerly obtained hiving been mislaid ; and also to the Colonial Treasurer for payment of subsidies."

" That the Borough Council be again applied to for payment of the account due to the Board."

" That the Board accept Mr Moore's resignation of his office of warden for No. 6 Ward with much regret."
