FOOTPATHS WITHIN THE BOROUGH OF MASTERTON.
To tit Editor of Ike- Waikartpa Daiiy. Sin,—ln your last issue I read Mr lUnall's remarks that people who require footpaths should contribute towards their formation, This, as.an owner of property, I am'quite willing to do, and hope tlmt my neighbors will see their way to do likewise, but it must he borne in mind that footpaths are not exclusively for the benefit of the owners or occupiers of the property abutting oil them, and as the public have also a very direct interest in footpaths, I think it would only bo just they should also contribute liberally, There is another matter, also, in connection with footpaths, winch I think it is now high time for the Council to take into consideration, namely the levels, By the 190 th section of the Municipal Corporations Act, of 1876, it is directed that the council of every borough shall, as soon as'conveniently may be, after the passing of this Act, causo a map of the borough to be made, showing all the streets and private streets therein with the levels thereof, and that all buildings erected within .the borough shall be constructed with reference to the levels shown upon said map.
I believe soon after the election of the Borough Council Mr King was authorised to take action in this matter, and spent some considerable time in making the necessary surveys. No doubt this data would be forthcoming if the Council can see its way to complete the map. lam, &c., Ratepayer, MASTERTON CHRISTYS, To the Editor of the Waihahapa Daily. Sir—Would you kindly allow mo a amall space in your ualuable paper re the Masterton Christy Minstrels. It was about seven or eight weeks ago I noticed in the Wairarapa Daiiy that the Masterton Ohristys would shoitly appear, Now, I should like to know what they call shortly, as I think eight weeks is not shortly. I think it is high time for them to give us a night's entertainment, as tho long winter evenings are very dull.—l am, &c,, A Masterton Resident.
