DETERMINED SUICIDE.
About twenty.minutes to two o'clock this afternoon, a'man named Thomas Barry, who lira been for many yearsknocking about the Provincial Yard, and doing odd jobs at the .'rear of the Theatre, entered the kitchen of tho Provincial Hotel, and withdrawing a small packet from his pocket, began mixing a white powder in some water iii a tumbler. The servants in the kitchen knowing that he had been drinking hard, and believing that he was preparing,.a sedlitz powder, paid no attention to "his nloveinents.' Suspicion was only aroused after Barry, having quailed the contents of the glass, exclaimed, addressing the head cook. "You will have to attend my juquest shortly." Barry immediately, left the kitchen, and lay down on. a' sofa in the commercial room. In about ten; minutes lie was seized with convulsions, and from replies obtained, it was concluded he had taken strychnine. • Medical aid. was-.at once sent for, and instructions were'given to have him removed to the hospital, He was driven with all expedition, but he cx-_ pired at the corner of Hanover-street, a' niinuto or two before reaching the Institu-. tion. Barry was about 45 years of age, and by profession a sea-faring man. • For the last 15 years lie has been doing, odd jobs, such as cleaning the yard, and making himfelf generally useful about the hotel 'theatre. His chief failing was,;.ai; r u»connuerable fovp of liquor, thismorbid ci'aVing liis untimely, end is" attributed.'
