MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.

The regular quarterly meeting of the Masterton Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Wednesday evening at the Emyire Hotel. After the minutes of previous meeting had been read and confirmed, the Treasurer made his report, showing a balance in favor of the Brigade of £2114s lid. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £8 lis. Letters were read from R. Bruce Wallace, Esq., the secretary Fire Brigade Association, and tho Town Clerk, Masterton.

Tho letter of the Fire Brigade Association, asking tho Masterton Brigade to join the association, was ordered to lay over till the next quarterly meeting. In reply to the letter of the Town Clerk, asking the Brigade to form a body of Fire Police in connection with itself, the secretary was instructed to say that the Fire Brigade considers the Firo Police to be a body quite distinct from themselves, that the Brigade would suggest to the Council the advisability of calling a public meeting to take steps to form such a body; and, though the Brigade would gladly see a body of Fire Police in existence, does not see its way to take the initiative in forming it,

Mr Quartly moved, and Mr A J. Petherick Beconded, That Messrs Easthope and Girdlestone be a deputation to ivait upon the Borough Council to ask for an annual subsidy for the Brigade. Mr Jago moved, and Mr Easthope seconded, That the Brigade will place its services at the disposal of the Borough Council if the Council thinks it advisable, on condition that the Council appoint as Fire Inspector the Captain of the Brigade for the time being, Mr Warner was appointed Foreman of Hose Company vice Mr Pickering, and Sir Quick Foreman of Engine Company, vice Mr Fogden, resigned, The secretary was instructed to procure for the use of the Brigade badges of black enamelled leather marked with white letters.

Four applications for membership were received, and tlio meeting then adjourned till Wednesday, 19th inat., at 8 p.m. Members to assemble at the engine shed,
