We notice that Mr Petherick has commenced the erection of the new offices for County Council East and the Masterton Highway Board, Mr J, Yile, of Masterton, forwarded this week to Canterbury twenty draught horses, believing that they will command a higher price there than in this market.

Wo hear that a cricket match has been arrangedbetweenthe Masterton and Opaki Clubs for St. Patrick's Day in Mrs Yates' Paddock. Williams, Teakle, Hawthorn, Hogan, Eggington, Forest, Campbell, Gordon, Ward, Buckrell, Moore, and Jacques. A meeting of the Masterton Farmers' Club was held last evening at the Empire Hotel, at which there was hardly a satisfactory attendance of farmers, though plenty of non-farmers were present. Mr Donald Donald was voted to the chair, and expressed his interest in the movement. Mr. Corbett, the Secretary, explained that the Committee appoiuted to draft rules, were not as yet able to report, as information which they, required was only to hand that day. On the motion of Mr Dalrymple, seconded by Mr Dreyer. it was decided that the Committee should report on the suitableness of the rules of the Lincoln Club, a copy of which was in the hands of the Secretary. It was also resolved that Messrs lorns, Dreyer, Oarr, Donald, and Brown be appointed a subcommittee to get up a dinner at an early date, at which the Club might be formally inaugurated.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Greytown Christian Association' was held on Tuesday last. There was a moderately good attendance, The President, the Rev J. B. Richardson, occupied the chair. Mr Rush read an essay on the "Puritans, and their influence on the nineteenth century." He referred to his long admiration of the Puritans, and gave a graphic sketch of them under the Protector Cromwell ; referring to their deep piety, their stem struggle for civil and religious liberty. He also pointed out the blemishes in their character, the rigidness of which was extreme, even to scrutinizing the interference of magistrates in their private affairs, such as putting young men in the stocks for walking out too late with the more attractive portion of humanity. Altogether, the lecture was most attractive and useful, After some remarks on the essay by other members of the association the meeting terminated, Mr Rush intends giving the other half of the essay on a future occasion.

The usual monthly meeting of the Masterton School Committee was held yesterday afternoon, Present .-Messrs Feist, (chairman), Wrigloy, Brown, and Payton. The Secretary in the absence of the Treasurer, reported the balance in hand to be £2210 a. Mr Brown, visiting member for the previous month, reported that sundry fittings were required, which were referred to Mr Feist, the visiting member for the ensuing month The subcommittee appointed to report on a proposed application to the Masterton Town Trustees for a fixed annual grant, could not in the absence of the of the Eev James McKee bring up its report, On the motion of Mr Payton, the name of Mr Brown was added to the sub-committee, and it was decided that a special meeting of the general committee should, if necessary, be convened to consider the question, The chairman was requested to invite applications for the services of a drill instructor for the school. Mr Brown reported that instruction- on sewing was given in the school twice a week, The meeting then adjourned,

We learn from Mr Daliymple that he sold some land last year at Waikakeke, to a purchaser, who ploughed up 8 acres of it sowed then with oats in October, and has.now just got 76 bushels to the aero off them, clearing with his first crop the freehold of the land.-
