GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
« A meeting of the Council was held in the Town Hall, on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs Fuller, Gray, Udy, Hastwell, Baillie, Barnard, and T. Kempton, jun. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the following correspondence read:— OOTWAEDS, To the Town Clerks of the Palmerston, Blenheim,' Masterton, and Wellington, asking for copies of their respective Byelaws.—To the Chairman of the Greytown Trustees, asking at what price they would be willing to let the supper-room and front room of the Town Hall, as Borough offices at per annum.—To the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand Greytown, acknowledging receipt of letter, and stating the names of those authorised to'sign cheques
on behalf of .the Council.—To the Colonial Secretary's office, asking for a supply of valuation forms and books for the vise of the Borough!. 1 ..v.' ;
; INWARDji. From the Colonial Secretary's office, acknowledging receipt of letter re election of auditors.—From the Secretary of the Treasury acknowledging the receipt of letter,—From the Secretary of Trustoes stating that the charge for the front and back rooms of Hall would be £5 per year, and that a charge of £1 would be made for the use of the Hall for public meetings.—From the Standard office re copy of rules. RESOLUTIONS. Proposed by Cr Ha3twell,. seconded by Cr Fuller—That the question of accepting or otherwise the offer of the Trustees be postponed till next meeting of the Council. It was proposed as au amendment by Or Baillie seconded by Cr Barnard—That the offer of the Trustees be accepted. The- amendment was carried on the voices, Two applications were received for the office of working overseer:—Mr T. Jackson, £3 per week, declined; Mr F. Cole £2los per week, accepted. Two applications were received for the office of Collector. Mr Bock was appointed. Resolved on the motion of Cr Barnard seconded by Cr Kempton—That the proposition asking tho Mayor to act as Treasurer be rescinded. It was resolved that the appointment of Treasurer be held over till next meeting. The Town Clerk was instructed to procure a copy of the Municipal Corporations Act for each member of the Council. ; It was resolved on the motion of Cr Baillie—That until a Committee of Works be formed tho Mayor be requested to give the overseer instructions to proceed with all necessary work. Cr Kempton thought that after the large fire that had had in Greytown it was desirable that they should take some steps to prevent a similar calamity in. future if possible, and he moved—That tho Town Clerk,write to the Insuranco offices, asking them if they would supply an engine if ft brigado were formed. Seconded by Cr Fuller and-carried. Cr Udy gave notice that at the next meeting of tho Council he would move—- " That a Committee of Works be appointed to consist of Crs Baillie, Gray, Smith, Kempton and the mover, all works to be submitted to the Committee for approval." Also—" That all accounts, books, &c.j belonging to the late Local Board, be handed over to the Council to be examined and audited, This concluded the business of the Council,
