The vonerable Arch'dc'acon Stock conducted sovvice in St. John's Church on Sunday evening last,; there •was a good and attentive congregation, On Sunday, February Dth the Rev A, Coffey will preach, and, I believe, remain a few days in this district to canvass for the new scheme for supporting churches of this diocese, The idea is a good one and it is hoped will prove successful, As Feafchorston may soon expect a resident clergyman, considerable improvement will be necessary, A parsonage must bo built, and a new church is almost necessary. It is likely that another site, more central, will be obtained. The cause is now pretty strong hove, and with a resident clergyman might bp greatly increased, Mr Cox, on behalf of some of the soatholders, lately presented a sum of money and an address to Miss Gurr, for her untiring oxertions in the singing department, and presiding at the harmonium. Crime does not often appear in our midst, but.a case of theft was heard before theR.M. yesterday, against two. boys, one in the employ of Mr Fellingham, the other of Mr Dornoy, The charge was for stealing and exchanging goods from their several omployers. The State School was re-opened on Thursday last, and over 150 children are already entered. ■ Mr Cumberworth, the assistant master, lias entered upon his duties. He is a promising teacher, and has had the advantage of fifteen months training in the Christchurch Normal School. The new fence erected by the late committee, adds considerably to the appearance of our school, It is of galvanised iron, and costs some £ls, only £25 of which is given by the Board,
