Small Birds.

At the Council meeting yesterday Mr Walker drew the Council’s attention to the fact that the Borough Council had not taken any action, in regard to the destruction of small birds. The borough was a breeding ground for birds, which greatly annoyed residents with crops just outside the boundary and the Council should be compelled to assist,

The chairman, and members agreed with Mr Walker- and it was decided on the latter’s motion that the attention of tho Agricultural Department be drawn io the fact that the Borough Council was not taking any steps towards the destruction of small birds and that it be asked to co-operate with the County Council, Mr Lyall said that there was not a third of the birds coming in thia year as last. Killing the birds in the winter was the most effective method.

Mr Hardie said there was as many sparrows as ever in hia district and the same damage was done to the grain crops, but the birds were not building so much. Other years they had several broods out by this time.
