WAIMATE GRAIN REPORT. Messrs Guinness and LeCren Ltd., report for the week ending Jan. 20th as follows, all quotations being on trucks at sidings near Waimate, sacks extra except where otherwise mentioned.
Wheat—The enquiry mentioned in our last still continues, and a fair number of lines have changed hands during the week. We quote prime Tuscan, 3s 4 l-2d to 3s sd, prime Velvet 3$ 3 l-2d to 3s 4d, prime Redchaff 3s 3d. Oats— are in good demand, and prices have advanced since our last re- • port. We have placed a cor factorable number of lines within the past few days, and can still sell a furthur quantity at top rates. We quote prime short kinds Is 7d to Is Bd, prime Danish Is 5d to Is 6d. Cocksfoot—We have numerous enquiries for the new crop of thi?, and shall be glad to have samples from clients as soon as their seed is ready. WAIHAO DOWNS CLEARING SALE. This important sale will be held at Waihao Downs on Thursday, 26th January at 11 a.m. It will be remembered that a sale of surplus stock took place on thia property about a year ago, and the stock and plant now to be submitted at auction are therefore of very high quality and *lll carefully selected. The draught horses alone are sure to command a large attendance of farmers as the Waihao Downs teams are well known to contain only the best. Of 23 mares, all of high quality, no less than 13 have been stinted to Baron Graceful and Pride of Chetnole, and five of these mares have high.class pedigrees which will be given at the sale. The 6-yr-old draught mare “ Lucy” is the winner of three first prizes and two champions. The draught geldings are all young and with one exception, guaranteed first-class workers in either shafts or chains, while the 6-yr-old “ Lion” is the winner of four prizes. The unbroken draughts are of the same stamp, well bred and carefully selected. The light horses include two fine pairs, guaranteed right for either single or double harness, and some of the mares have foale at foot by Dirk Hammerhand, while others are stinted to Defender 11., which celebrated c >aching entire will also be offered at this auction. The ponies are used to children and thoroughly quiet. Reference to the advertisement will give information regarding the other stock coming under the hammer. The surplus sale cleared off all useless implements, and these to be submitted are all in first-class order. Wheeled vehicles include, four-horse coach, dogcart, large brake, long ahafter, waggons, drays and spr'ng carts, and ali the harness is to be sold. All sorts of farm implements and tools will be submitted. Also the whole of Mr Douglas’ household furniture, all of which is in excellent order and of high quality. The furniture sale will commence at 2.30p.m. The ordinary train to Waihao Downs, which leaves Waimate it 9.50 a.m., will enable passengers to ba present at the opening of the sale, and the auctioneers have arranged for a special train from Waihao Downs in the evening to connect with the north and south expresses.
