Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Waimate Borough Council was held on Thursday evening to discuss the water gas question, Councillors H. 0. Barclay, R."~Nicol, J. Cameron, R. Inkster, J. Sinclair, F. Jones and ,J. Freeman being present. Cr. Barclay was voted to the chair.

His Worship, in apologising for absence owing to illness, suggested that the meeting should be postponed till Bth December. Mr J. Watt sent a letter stating that he was prepared to sign a new agreement with an extra clause to the effect that if he were granted a three months extension of time within which to commence operations, he would be prepared within that time to spend £3OO on buildings, etc., within the borough. A long conversational discussion took place in which the merits and de-merits of Mr Watt and his water gas were fully gone into, the majority of the councillors expressing themselves in favour of the installation being gone on with. On the motion of Crs. Inkster and Cameron it was resolved to ask His Worship to get their solicitor’s advice on the question of the proposed new clause and the extension of time.

The meeting is to stand adjourned till Monday next.
