I The fund started in London in aid of the South African Loyalists has reaehed £5600. Mr Hofnieyer and other members of the Afrikander Bond propose South Africa instead of Afrikander as the title of the Bond, and that its policy should be to aim at federation in South Africa on Canadian lines ; also that settlers be eligible' for membership. A Johannesburg deputation assured the authorities that the legal decision nullifying Mr Kruger's no rent proclamation had accentuated the acute distress. Sir A. Lawley promised to postpone the payment of interest on lands, but said that he required clear proof of great hardship before he wou'd move in the matter of rents. HerrVlok, interviewed, said that the Dutchmen's hope was that ultimately the Dutch in South Africa would be moie widespread and deep-rooted than Englishmen.
