'< Mr A. K. Austin, Resident [Engineer, reported as follows for month ending November 28, [1902 :

*' Eastern Mole—During the (month 12,722 lon3 of rubble have been deposited in the-mole, making an a\e age of 547 tons per day over a per od of '23% working days. The total <j. antity of stone brought dwwn and lipped to t?ate is 151,405 tone, distribuied ac f jllows : Eastern mole, 145,377 tons; breakwater repa ; r?, tons ; tramline protfction, 2712 l-ona ; Hayes street, 537 tons. 'i he sagDg is constructed out to a distance of 1600 feet, four spans having been erected during the month. This work is now well in advance of the mole, so that the carpenteos could be spared for about two months on the Main wharf repairs wb<m the timber arrives, which is due about the end iof December next. Stone has been I lipped out to a distance of 1500 ; feet f;om the commencement of the mole, and shows abave water at low tides at a distance of 1275 feet.

" Quarry—The cranes have all a fair face of stone to work at, and are being worked hours per day. As the stripping is well advanced a number of strippers have been dispensed with. Seven ainall mines have been fired with good results. The main line (tramline) has been extended three chains to the westward. " Tramline to North Mole—The work of b\ing this line has been stopped fur want of material. The rails have arrived, but without the fastenings. When the fastenings arrive, which are expected in a few days, the work will be pushed ahead. " Wharf Maintenance—The carpenters on this work have been employed' in renewing walings, braces and fender piles of the main I wharf.

w Dred B ing—The Timaru has dredged 7200 tons of silt and sand, land 550 tons of sand and shingle, horn the inside of the harbour, and 900 tons of sand and shingle from outside the entrance, making a total dredged of 8650 tons. The, Taniwha has dredged 2190 tons of silt and sand from the Main and Moody wharves. She was 64 hours on the slip this month for inspection and repairs, being the half-yearly inspection. The dredge is now in thorough repair and working well." The receipts for the month were : ships' dues, £832 12s lid, wharfage, £706 14s 6d; harbour rate, Waimate (balance), £llO 10s 7d ; Geraldine Town Board, £26 7s Bd. —Herald.
