Waimate Hospital Board.
The monthly meeting of the Waimate Hospital Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs E. J. Atwill, R. Nicol, A. Walker, and J. Bitchener. Mr Atwill was voted to the chair.
The surgeon’s report showed 8 males and 7 females in the hospital at last return ; 3 males and 4 females admitted during the month ; 4 males and ft females discharged, leaving 7 males and b females still under treatment.
A letter was received from the South Canterbury Hospital Board, enclosing balance of subsidy. Notifications were received of the election to the Board of Messrs Nicol, Coitman, Hardie, Walker, Studholme and Breen.
The visitors reported that everything was satisfactory except the cottage, which was left in an unfinished state.
Mr Walker said he had to p iss the work before it was paid for, and he would inspect it shortly. Messrs Walker and Atwill were the visitors appointed for the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £125 9a Cd were passed for payment. Mr Walker brought up the matter of the wife of a patient not being informed of her husband's death till he had been dead some ten hours, and then only when she went to the Hospital co visit him He strongly condemned the action as a shame and disgrace to the officials of the Hospital. Mr Atwill said the officials of the institution were not to blame, as they sent word to town, trusting that the n«ws should be carried to the widow
Mi Walker hoped such a thing would n >t occur again while he was on the Hospital Board. Instructions should be g veu that in future cases the Respite’ officials should send word direct
