On Thursday the Timaru A team journeyed to Waimate to try conclusions with the local A team. They arrived one man short but otherwise had a good team, which was improved by Mr C. J. Goldfitone playing as substitute. A very useful substitute Timaru found him, as he put together 14 runs in good style.

The chief scorers for Timaru were Jones, Goldstone, Cox and Wright. Extras made the liberal contribution of 17 to the score of 71 in the first For Waimate Fulton was the most successful with the ball. O'Shea and Hiiyes vvere not in as good form as usual. Waimate's fielding was not up to its usual standard, 17 extras being got and over a dozen catches being missed, some hot, some easy. Wilson and Fulton were the only good fielders in the eleven.

Fulton and Mann opensd for Waimate but were soon disposed of. Steady batting on the part of the other batsmen brought the score to 75. Wilson showed the best form among the Waimate players, putting up the respectable score of 15. J. Goldstone and Cooper also shaped well with the bat. Hayes, when he goes to the wickets, Deems to have the one longing to make a boundary hit. This is not true cricket, although it takes with the spectators. Timaru in their second attempt compiled 54 runs for eight wickets and declared their innings closed. Waimate had thus to get 50 runs to win or to play out time. However, by the steady batting of Fulton partnered by Hutchinson, the required runs were got within time for the loss of four wickets.

Lack of space prevents the full scores being given. Owing to Winchester being unable to raise a team, the match to-day will not be played.

Waimate have entered a team for the South Canterbury Cricket Association's junior competition.

Trumble has returned to Melbourne. He btaies that the Australian team had a good time in South Africa, and would be home on December 3.

Lord Hawke's team Bailed from London on November 12, via San Francisco. Warner is captain, Lord Hawke being kept in England by the illness of his mother and a broken collar-bone.
