The Daily Express states that Mr Chamberlain during his visit to South Africa will arrange for the Government taking over the Rhodesia Chartered Company, the company concurring. November 15.
Mr Chamberlain declares that the report with reference to the Imperial Government taking over Rhodesia is unauthorised and untrue.
The Standard states that Lord Milner on the 25 th starts on a three weeks’ tout o£ Orange Colony, and meets Mr Chamberlaih at Volksrust.
Mr Kruger’s memoirs assert that Cecil Rhodes kept Mr Chamberlain fully informed of the preparations for the Jameson raid. Rand business bouses are enquiring into the possibility of introducing Chinese labour. Capetown, November 15.
In the Assembly, at the close of the session, Sir Gordon Sprigg announced that though the crusier Good Hope, with Mr Chamberlain on board, first touches at Durban, she would come on to Capetown. At Mr Hoffmeyer’e instance the Afrikander Bond leaders met to revise the constitution of the Bond on a non-raoial basis, for promoting the domestic development of South Africa. A general meeting has been summoned to approve of their decisions. Ottawa, November 18. Mr W. Mulook, Canadian Post-master-General, addressing the Ottawa Board of Trade, recommended the establishment of a new cargo steamship line to South Africa, and said that eventually it would lead to a direct line between Eastern Canada and Australia.
