There being no other opponent coming into the field against the Hon. J. Carroll, the local journal issued in the prohibition interest to-night announces that the Hev. F. W. Isitt will be a candidate, so as to secure a fuller vote on the licensing question, in which there is keen interest. Marton, November 5. Mr Seddon conferred with the Ministerial candidates (Messrs Hornblow, Reardon, and Smith) for the Rangitikei seat at Mangaweka. As a result it was reported that they would stand down in favour of Mr Remington, the selected Government candidate. However, Messrs Hornblow and Reardon have stated since that they have no intention of retiring. WpoLmoToy, November ij. parliament was dissolved to-day. The writs will be issued on Tuesday. CnßisTcnußcy, November 5. Mr G. J. Smith addressed a large meeting this evening. He quoted figures to show that the colony was in a prosperous con dition and likely to continue so. He regeivecj a vote of thanks and confidence. Ashburton, November 5. There are four candidates for the Ashburton seat, and three are supporters of the Government. Today Mr McLachlan, the sitting member, received a telegram from Sir J. G. ’VYard practically declaring him to be the Government candidate.
