The Finan-ial 'limes says :—We are always favourably impressed with the reports of the Sceptre Life Association, wh ch, although not a large Oflice, is thoroughly sound and i* doing remarkably well. Most of its business seems to be in smail policies, the average ndividu-jl sum being under £2OO, but great care is t«kea in selection, and oC'jnorny c f working is secured in an exceptional degr<-e. . . . Another trong point in favour of the Office i 8 the marked vital ty of it* members. The Temperance section hat always been a featuie, and certainly the figures shown year by year are striking. STOP AND THINK.
My boy when they ask you to drink,
Stop and think. Just think of the danger ahead ; Of the hearts that in sorrow have bled O'er hopes that were drown'd in the bowl, Filled with death for the body and soul.
When you hear a man asking for drink, Stop and think. The draught that he drinks will destroy High hopes and ambitions, mj bey ; And the man who the leader might be Is a slave that no man's hand can free ! Oh this terrible demon of drink ! Stop and think Of the graves where the victims are laid, Of the ruin and woe it has made, Of tic wives and the mothers who pray For the curse to be taken away. Yes, when you are tempted to drink, Stop and think Of the danger that lurks in the bow], JThe death that it brings to the soul, The harvest of sin and of woe, And spurn back the tempter with " No." E. E, Rexford. LIQUOR LOGIC. "Yes," said a liquor man the other day, " there are some funny laws in this colony ; just fancy closing hotels on Sunday. Don't a man get just as thirsy on a Sunday as on any other day." The liquor traffic hates to be under a moral aw.
