Timaru Presbytery.
MEETING AT MORVEN. Tlie Timaru Presbytery mot on Tuesday at Morven, when there were present the Revs. J. Watt (Moderator), G. Barclay, J. White. A. S. Morrison, R. Jackson, A. B. Todd (Clerk), and Messrs J. McNab, J. Goldie, and S. Mcßride, elders. An apology for absence was received from Dr Black. The business of the Presbytery was threefold. First, the usual quarterly meeting was held at 10 a.m. ; then iu the afternoon Presbytery met the officials of Waitaki Church at Morven ; and in the evening they paid the triennial visitation to the congregation. The meeting was held in Mrs Nicol’s tea rooms, kindly placed at the disposal of Presbytery for the occasion, there being no other room available. Before the minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, tho Rev. R. Jackson drew attention to an omission from them ; there was no minute of the fact that Presbytery had appointed a committee to draw up reasons against tho appeal by Chalmers Church, the committee to submit those reasons to a meeting of Prusbvtery. Considerable discussion ensued, and ultimately it was decided on the motion of the Rev. J. White, sacondo f by the RevjJ G.Barclay—“ That the Revs A. B. Todd and A. S' Morrison he air homed to give their reasons against the appeal iu the case of Chalmers Chinch sits to the appellants within ten da>a.” Tho Rev A. B. Todd referred to the great revival oi religion that had ta'ren place in the large centres of population as a very encouraging feature of the Limes, and one for which they should be thankful. He proposed—“ That the Presbytery give thanks to God for the revival of religion that has taken place in large centres of population, and trusts that it may be deep and abiding, and may extend throughout the whole la nd.” The Rev A. S. Morrison seconded the motion, which was carried. At the congregational meeting in the evening there was a fair attendance of members and adherents. Tea was prepared and served by the ladies of the church. The Rev Mr. Todd read the finding of the Presbytery on the state of matters in the Waitaki charge, which was satisfactory. Speeches were made by the Revs A. S. Morrison, R. Jackson, and J. White on the history of the Christian Church in the past, the present, and the future. Musical selections were given by Mr and Mrs Steven and Miss Park, of Waitaki, and by Mias Faulkner, Willowbridge. Votes of thanks to tho Presbytery for their visit, by the Rev J. Watt; to ihe ladies for refreshments, by Mr McNab ; and to tho singers were heartily responded to. The Benediction, pronounced by the Rev R. Jackson, closed the meeting.
