The General Election.
AN ECCLESIASTICAL VIEW. On Tuesday the unsettled date of the General Election was referred to by the Presbyterian Assembly at Morven. The General Assembly of the-Presbyterian Church is held at Wellington ou November 11, And if, as at present proposed, the Election is on the 19th, it will not give members a chance to return home in time for the poll. As there will be 250 ministers and elders, many of whom take an active part either in the election for members or in the licensing question, it was felt that some representation should bo made. Accordingly, ou the motion of the. Rev G. Barclay it was decided to write to Sir Joseph Ward and see whether tho date could not be postponed for a few days, in order to give members time to return to their respective homes with a view to exercise their rights ■ ; ranchise. If this were not done ' V.-ro was a probability of 250 A misters and laymen being discrauchised.
