New York, September 2, Senator Platt, the. boas of the Republican Convention in New York State, declares that the Convention will not pledge itself to support President Roosevelt.
[A recant cable message stated that President Roosevelt’s speech on the repression of trusts, whilst increasing his {lopularity, had alarmed the Republican eaders lest the great financial and transportation corporations should reduce their contributions to the Presidential campaign funds.] The New York Herald states that the formation of the Armour Meat Trust is postponed owing to President Roosevelt’s attacks on combines. Washington, September 2.
President Roosevelt, speaking at Proctor, said that Monroeism was not aggressive, hut was necessary to enable America to develops peaceably. The dootrind wou'd only bo respected whilst it was backed by a first-class navy. It would be shameful if America indulged in idle boastiug, and was not prepared to back up her words by deeds. .
