Acclimatisation Society.
A meeting of the Waimate branch of the Acclimatisation Society was held on Thursday evening ; present Messrs S. J. Adams, president, in the chair, and Bell, R. Smith, Gheverton, J. Hall and Sinclair, (secretary.) Apologies were received from Messrs J. Dean and B. Flynn. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was decided to procure three hen pheasants. A letter was received from the Otago Acclimatisation Society asking the Society's opinion on allowing netting for trout in the sea for six months in the year, mesh not less than four inches, within one mile of a river. It was unanimously decided to object on account of the Waitaki River having H*en selected the place into which to put the salmon, as the netting might affect the whole success of the scheme and spoil the river for angling purposes. The Wellington Society wrote asking co-operation in getting a gun license imposed for protecting feathered game. After some discussion it was decided not tc entertain the request. It was decided to hold a meeting of the United Council in Waimate on the second Thursday in August, if convenient to the Waitaki Society. Proposed by the president (MiAdams), seconded by the vicepresideu (R. Smith), that the secretary be empowered to take the proper steps appointing Walter Cheverton a ranger for the Society. The secretary was instructed to present some large Rainbow trout to the Waitaki branch.
Accounts amounting to £sl 6s 8d were passed for payment. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the president.
